The Seattle metropolitan area is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city was named "Seattle" in 1853, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. In the 1980’s, the city developed into a technology center, with companies such as Amazon.com, Microsoft and T-Mobile US occupying bases in the area. Seattle has since become a hub for "green" industry and a hub for sustainable development. The city has an interesting musical history. From 1918 to 1951, there were nearly two dozen jazz nightclubs along Jackson Street. The jazz scene developed the early careers of Ray Charles, Quincy Jones and Ernestine Anderson, among others. There are countless amenities in the city, including restaurants, comedy and jazz clubs, trendy bars, nightclubs, banks, convenience stores and coffee shops.
