Area Guide Victoria
Victoria is in the City of Westminster borough and is known for its transport links and diverse range of industries. One of the busiest transport interchanges in London, Victoria has ample offerings in terms of commutability and serviced office space. With Terminus Place, a major hub for bus and taxi services, Victoria Coach Station for continental travel and the railway station and Underground, this part of London is undeniably connected.
It consists predominantly of commercial property, private and social housing, and retail. With the redevelopment of the former Royal Mail sorting office into a 120,000 sq ft cultural quarter, Victoria is becoming a fashionable place to start or conduct a business. Rents are slightly cheaper in comparison to its neighbouring districts.
Setting up your business here
With its excellent transport links to accommodate commercial and residential growth, demand for studios, office space, industrial units and workshops in this area is on the up. It is an area buzzing with opportunity: in 2016, the first phase of the Nova development to create 603,000 sq ft of offices was constructed and the Zig Zag building acquired 188,000 sq ft of new office space.
Culture and Entertainment
Culture hits Victoria visitors on arrival with the green lights of Wicked being positioned directly opposite the station and Billy Elliot nearby. Home to some of the most historic buildings in London, Victoria is a stone’s throw from Westminster Abbey, The Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. Visitors can commute to Victoria to witness the spectacle of Changing of the Guards.
Victoria Picture Place, built in the early 20th century, was directly opposite what is now the tube station and became The Venue nightclub, showcasing acts such as James Brown, The Cars and Captain Beefheart. Now an office block, with an Italian restaurant in its foyer, it is interesting to realise the historical significance of some of London’s oldest buildings while looking for serviced office space.
Eating out
There is constant need for restaurants and cafes in Victoria to fulfil the never-ending supply of commuters, workers and tourists.
For a spot of upmarket dining, the Michelin-starred Quilon is positioned in an elegant hotel setting, serving an amalgam of traditional Indian food with experimental elements.
For inexpensive French cuisine, Cafe Rouge is conveniently located next to the train station and has a warm ambience. Bbar Restaurant offers outdoor seating for al fresco dining in the warmer months and serves Angus beef burgers.
For relaxed Asian cuisine, the Cinnamon Club is located on Great Smith Street in a book-lined former Victorian library, offering a fine twist on its Indian dishes.
