Pontefract is a town in the county of Yorkshire, and is located in the Borough of City of Wakefield. The town was a major stronghold during the English civil war in the 17th century and the land still carries the scars of those battles in the form of medieval ruins and remains. Leeds Bradford International Airport is the town’s direct link to air-travel while the town boasts an extensive railway service. Pontefract Baghill Railway Station is connected to the Dearne Valley Line, while Pontefract Monkhill and Pontefract Tanshelf railway stations take commuters to Leeds via the Pontefract Line.
