The town of Leatherhead is situated in the Mole Valley District in Surrey. Its location on the River Mole provides the town with natural scenic beauty. Thought to be of Saxon origin, the town has enjoyed the position of being a major transport hub throughout its existence. An important industrial town during the latter part of the 20th century, currently the local economy is largely commerce-based. The area is home to the Leatherhead Drama Festival, which is the biggest of its kind in all of Britain and attracts thousands of patrons each year. Bockett’s Farm, a working family farm, is one of the major attractions in the vicinity; as is Leatherhead Museum.
The town is home to the Police Federation of England and Wales, which has its headquarters in the area. Several prominent businesses have serviced offices in the vicinity include The Tussauds Group, cell phone manufacturer AIRCOM, leading hardware chain Robert Dyas, ExxonMobil, and the multinational IT and management consultancy company Logica. Much of the retail space is taken by supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Budgens and Waitrose.

Leatherhead has its own railway station with services on the South Western Railway Network. Direct trains head to Waterloo, London Victoria and Wimbledon stations, providing access to all the stops along the route. Connecting to Wimbledon means connectivity to the London Underground, as well as to the light rail tram system, Tramlink. Numerous bus routes provide access to major destinations in Surrey and London, including Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.
