The town of Chatham in North Kent is one that has strong naval connections as well as military ones. The dockyard in the town is no longer operational but development in the area means that this is being transformed in to residential, commercial and tourist areas. As one of the Medway towns, Chatham is also the administrative headquarters of Medway unitary authority. It is also home to the headquarters of the Corps of Royal Engineers at Brompton Barracks.
