Area Guide Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury lies within the borough of Camden, and in the 17th and 18th century was a popular and upmarket residential area. It’s also famous for its literary connections and in the early 20th century was home to the Bloomsbury Group – a collective of writers, artists and thinkers. Many famous names came out of the Bloomsbury Group, including Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey.

A centre of education, Bloomsbury is also home to many of the University of London’s central bodies and departments. This means that employers based in the area have a wide pool of talent to draw from year on year.

Setting up your business here

There are several Underground stations in this area, and it is one of the better connected in London. There are also excellent links to Canary Wharf and other financial districts of the city. Bloomsbury is an area steeped in literary history and there’s plenty to do in the way of culture!

Culture and Entertainment

The Brunswick Centre is a very popular destination for Londoners and tourists alike, as it offers so much to do under the one roof. The Centre is something of a shopping, dining and cultural hub, with a huge variety of restaurants and bars to suit any needs and tastes, as well as a range of high street shops. There is an art-house cinema and a number of other sights and entertainment options, making it a great place to visit for a full day, or just to pop in and out of before or after work.

A more traditional example of culture in this area is the British Museum. Showing a range of exhibitions from all over the world and throughout history, this is a great place to visit time and time again. There are different exhibitions over the course of the year, as well as a range of talks and tours, many of which are free.

Eating out

Crazy Bear is a lavishly decorated Thai restaurant which has something of a cult following in the area. The restaurant serves food from other Asian countries as well, so there is plenty of choice, and the stylish decor makes it a great place great for lunching and dining.

It is always nice to be able to cater to the dietary needs of any client or guest when taking them out for a meal, which is why the Mary Ward Cafe is something of a godsend, serving deliciously fresh vegetarian and vegan food.
