Area Guide Berkshire

Located to the west of London, Berkshire is designated as a Royal County due to the presence of Windsor Castle. One of the oldest counties in England, the River Thames and its tributaries run through Berkshire. A number of famous people have resided in this county including British Prime Minister David Cameron, comedy genius Ricky Gervais, novelist Jane Austen, singing superstar Elton John, and Hollywood actress Kate Winslet. Along with Windsor Castle, the county is also home to Donnington Castle, Shaw House, Slough Museum and West Berkshire Museum.
