Area Information

Berkhamsted is a town that is located in West Hertfordshire. It was in this town that the English surrendered to Duke William of Normandy in the 11th century, thereby making him famous as William the Conqueror. Even though William was crowned in Westminster Abbey in London, the reign of England was handed over to him in Berkhamsted. This is the reason why this town is often referred to as the real capital of England by the locals. Today, the area is well known for its stunning castles, the main one being Berkhamsted Castle. The Local History and Museum Society conducts regular sightseeing tours to places of historical importance within the town, which attract numerous visitors throughout the year.

Business Information

Several noted companies have chosen Berkhamsted as the preferred area for their head offices. One of the most prominent companies that rent serviced offices in the vicinity is the British Film Institute. Other businesses that have a presence in the town include investment companies like Redleaf Investments, property agents, including Atchinsons and Castles, advertising firms and marketing companies. Retail spaces such as boutiques, antique stores, bookshops and beauty salons can be found within the town centre. Some of these include Dewberry’s Florist, Corbetts book shop and Holistique beauty consultants.

Entertainment And Dining Out

The Pottery Project Art Gallery makes for an interesting day out in the vicinity. If you’re a fan of the movies, the Rex Cinema is not only the best place to watch the latest releases but is also an amazing art-deco structure that provides an exciting glimpse into cinematic history. A visit to Berkhamsted would not be complete without dining at Martins Pond. The fabulous British food on offer has received a lot of praise from diners. Unicorn is a highly rated eatery for Chinese food and Taj Mahal for Indian.

Transport Information

Berkhamsted railway station is the main station in the area, providing access to services on the West Coast Mainline. London Midland runs several trains from Euston to Milton Keynes Central that call at Berkhamsted. Several bus and coach routes provide connectivity to London and onwards to other parts of the country. Berkhamsted is linked by the A41, which runs from outside Watford to Bicester.
