Area Guide Berkeley Square
A town square in Londonís West End; Berkeley Square is located within the City of Westminster. Although it is only a small area, it is one of the most prolific, and has some of the highest rents in all of London.
Once almost entirely residential, only one non-business block remains within the area Ė no. 48, the childhood home of Winston Churchill. The area is now home to a range of businesses, shops and members clubs. Planted in 1789, the London Plane trees here are some of the oldest in London.
Setting up your business here
There is plenty to do around this area, offering more for businesses to take advantage of during breaks from meetings or to entertain clients out of hours. The area is also incredibly easy to reach, with excellent transport links into the area from all over the city.
Culture and Entertainment
Berkeley Square itself is a place of interest for many, and thereís plenty to see and do. The square features a sculptural fountain completed in 1865 by Alexander Munro, a famous Pre-Raphaelite artist. Many of the surrounding buildings were been designed by famous architects, and the square is home to what is supposedly the most haunted house in London, currently occupied by Maggs Brothers Antiquarian Booksellers.
Nearby is St. Jamesí Park, a spot of peace and tranquillity in the otherwise incredibly busy city. The Park is set at the heart of the ceremonial area of the city, and as such is worth a visit during events like the annual Trooping the Colour.
Nobu is one of the most famous restaurants in the world, and Berkeleyís London version is a hotbed of celebrities and professionals. Serving up Japanese-style food in a beautiful sushi bar and hibachi grill, the eponymous restaurant also draws on South American influences.
For something a little more casual (but with a high-end twist), try Burger & Lobster. Its varied menu includes burgers, whole lobster and lobster rolls served up in an American diner setting. This would be an impressive place to entertain clients for a low maintenance lunch.
