Area Guide Waterloo

Part of the London Borough of Lambeth, Waterloo sits across the river from the Houses of Parliament and is situated to the east side of Charing Cross.

Waterloo is part of the business district, Waterloo Quarter, which encompasses parts of the London Borough of Southwark, as well as the Southbank which is home to the likes of the National Theatre, BFI and Tate Modern.

Setting up your business here

Waterloo benefits hugely from having the country’s culture hub, Southbank, for a neighbour. The prestigious setting brims with restaurants and attractions and is therefore suitable for client entertainment.

The Waterloo station – one of the most significant stations in the city – is another major selling point of the area. Not only does it add great value to the location itself, with excellent transport links across London, but it also offers great accessibility to other parts of the country. Additionally, the area’s business side is noteworthy, as it is composed of a range of establishments such as banks, financial institutions and news services organisations. Waterloo is also known for housing a tourist trade, as well as the international companies, IMAX and Shell.

Culture and Entertainment

Sightseeing is a must as Waterloo’s surroundings are filled with many iconic landmarks. A quick walk from Waterloo Station takes you to Big Ben, Westminster Bridge, and the London Eye.

For theatre-lovers, there’s the famous the Old Vic and Young Vic theatres, as well as the Royal Festival Hall. For a history fix, you can visit Waterloo’s most prominent places: the St George's Cathedral, the Imperial War Museum, and Florence Nightingale Museum.

Other key entertainment options in the vicinity include the London Dungeon, and the Sea Life London Aquarium. Both attractions are popular with tourists and Londoners and they both can be found in the County Hall, next to the London Eye.

Eating out

The Masters Super Fish is one of the most popular restaurants in the area and it’s where you can enjoy the nation’s favourite cuisine – fish & chips. The restaurant is adored for both its generous portions of sea food and its reasonable prices.

The restaurant Baltic is one of the main delights in the vicinity: the setting is often complimented for its unique décor, amazing Eastern European food, and vodka-inspired drinks. The atmosphere is exciting and ideal for groups.

The Cubana restaurant, located at Lower Marsh, also brings great quality food and a vibrant ambience. This place draws in the public with its colourful exterior and keeps them coming back for an even brighter interior, live music and excellent Cuban food.
