Area Guide Shoreditch
Located in the East End of London, Shoreditch is a district situated to the north of the City of London. It can be described as a triangle that comprises Old Street, Great Eastern Street and Shoreditch High Street. The prospering area has much to offer visitors, including pulsing markets, edgy bars, restaurants and street art.
Art can also be found in the history of Shoreditch: the area housed the Elizabethan playhouse, The Theatre, London’s first commercial theatre, as well as The Curtain Theatre, which was popular for hosting a number of Shakespeare's plays.
Setting up your Business Here
Shoreditch greatly benefits from its proximity to other key areas, such as the financial district, City of London and the impressive transport hub Liverpool Street. Its commercial potential is reflected in the availability of office space, with Shoreditch being home to some of the most attractive serviced offices in the capital.
Shoreditch is an inspiring and productive location, buzzing with the talent of architects, photographers, publishers, designers and technology companies. The Old Street roundabout has even come to be referred to as the ‘Silicon Roundabout’ due to the high number of tech startups that have flocked to the district.
Culture and Entertainment
There are many galleries established in the area, including the Leonard Street Gallery, Raven Row and Rich Mix Centre. Street art is another main attraction, making up a significant part of the area’s overall appeal. So, instead of choosing the traditional option of visiting a gallery, you can go on a tour around the district and admire its fine works. Alternatively, you can opt for history-focused attractions, like the Geffrye Museum (Kingsland Rd) and the Museum of London (London Wall).
If you’re looking for client entertainment and solid laughs, be sure to check out The Comedy Café on Rivington Street. The establishment also features a bar, restaurant and live music sessions several times a week.
Eating out
Ruby Café is your ultimate go-to option for a fix of Italian and Mediterranean food. Expect reasonable prices, delightful food, friendly service and even outside seating overlooking Hoxton Square.
If French cuisine in a unique setting is your thing, then give Les Trois Garcons a try. The restaurant offers a unique gastronomic experience with well-crafted dishes. The venue’s great reputation can be seen through its many positive reviews, having gained TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence accolade.
The area is also notorious for its food markets, which provide an all-round fun experience. So, on that note, we recommend the Urban Food Fest, which takes place on Saturdays at Shoreditch High Street – the live music is a bonus!
