Area Guide Moorgate

Moorgate was originally a postern in the Roman period, which was later transformed into an actual gate in the 15th century, and ultimately demolished in 1762. The name, however, now lives on as an important street within the City of London.

Moorgate is currently known as a busy financial hub. The area is visibly affluent, accommodating landmarks such as the Moor House and Londonís tallest skyscraper which is still under construction.

Setting up your business here

Moorgate is a desirable location, primarily for belonging to Londonís financial centre, City of London. Some of the major financial organisations established in the area include the Bank of England, Lloyds and Barclays.

Transport-wise, Moorgate benefits from excellent links, and especially from its closeness to the transport hub that is Liverpool Street. The district also affords the convenient proximity to the rest of the City of London, Clerkenwell and the Barbican.

Culture and Entertainment

The Barbican Centre on Silk Street is an exceptional cultural centre, hosting a range of different arts events and exhibitions. The building houses theatres, three cinema screens and galleries appealing to every taste. The venue is also well regarded for being home to the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Museum of London on London Wall is another major attraction in the region, with its captivating retelling of London's history from pre-Roman to modern times.

Eating out

The area overflows with eateries and restaurants. Choose from a quick bite at EAT in Moorgate Hall or sit back at Wagamama on Ropemaker Street for Pan-Asian food in a sociable, canteen style setting.

Alternatively, you can opt for easy-going atmosphere combined with signature Spanish dishes at La Tasca on Eldon Street.
