The town is near a fertile plain that is referred to as the Huerta de Murcia, this area is called Europe’s orchard as it has long been a producer and exporter of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. This is a university town with one public university: the University of Murcia, one private university: the Catholic University Saint Anthony, and several professional schools in the area.
