Shinjuku-ku is a ward in Tokyo, Japan. The name of the city mean’s ‘New Lodge’, and the area is home to the busiest train station in the world, the Shinjuku Station. As one of Tokyo’s 23 wards, the city of Shinjuku-ku is a major commercial and administrative centre. In this area you will find the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and the administration centre for the government of Tokyo. The place name Shinjuku is often used to describe the large entertainment, business, and shopping area surrounding Shinjuku Station, not the entire city.

As a major transit hub, the JR Shinjuku Station has an estimated 3.64 million passengers use the service every day. At this station there are three subway lines, three privately owned commuter lines and several JR lines.
