Villach is a town located in the province of Carinthia, in Austria. Villach is an ancient city, with roots dating back to the Roman times. The center is situated on the western border of the Klagenfurt Basin, at the merging of the Drau and Gail rivers. The municipal area is surrounded by various lakes, including Ossiacher See, Faaker See, Silbersee, Vassacher See, Magdalensee, and St. Leonharder See. Villach is also skirted by the Alps, offering great skiing in winter and hiking in summer.

The Museum der Stadt Villach is a great place to go in order to discover the history of the town. It takes about an hour to go through, and offers grounding for the rest of your site seeing. There are also direct connections to Munich, Zurich, Venice, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Belgrade. Villach itself is quite a small town, making it possible to get around on foot.
