Cottbus, also spelled Kottbus, is a city within the Brandenburg Land state of eastern Germany. It lies on the Spree River, at the south-eastern edge of the Spree Forest. Cottbus is near the German border with Poland and is a university city with extensive municipal parks. Cottbus hosts an annual national garden show.
A railway junction and industrial centre, Cottbus manufactures textiles, food products, and electro technical equipment. This city is also the site of a large brown-coal-fired power plant. As the seat of Brandenburg Technical University, Cottbus is also home of the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) and the maths/science-oriented Max-Steenbeck-Gymnasium, named after the physicist Max Steenbeck. Cottbus hosts the East European Film Festival each year. The city offers a vast selection of office space throughout the area.
