Montpellier is a city, and the capital of Hérault département and of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It is located in southern France, 7 miles (12 km) from the Mediterranean coast. Montpellier is the 8th largest city of the country, and has been the fastest growing city in France for over 25 years.
Montpellier is a modern city and one of the areas tourist centre. This is the home of the International Vine and Wine Fair. The economy is dependant on food processing, metallurgy, electronics, pharmaceuticals, textile weaving, and tourism. The city has two large concerts venues that bring a lot of tourist trade to Montpellier: Le Zenith Sud and L’Arena. This area is also known for its universities. Here you will find the University of Montpellier, and the schools of medicine, pharmacy, law, sport, and business. There is also the school of sciences. Another school in the area is Paul Valéry University, as well as Montpellier III: arts, languages, and social sciences schools. Office space surrounding the universities is popular.

For entertainment, try place de la Comédie Montpellier. Offering more than a quick meal, you can sit at place de la Comédie, have dinner and a drink, and watch the street entertainers as they “act out” on the street. You certainly can’t miss the giraffe at the door, or the ox-blood-red decor and original artwork in the downstairs dining area. Upstairs, dinner is served beneath the cross arches of this former chapel. The chef gets his ingredients fresh from the market each day, and the menu changes accordingly. Try the heavenly breast of chicken rolled around prawns, served with fresh coriander and satay sauce.
