La Defense is a major business district in Paris, France. It is located at the western end of the Paris’ Historical axis from the Louvre and through Champs-Élysées, and the Arc de Triomphe. The district is spread over 1.6 square kilometres within the communes Nanterre, Courbevoie, and Puteaux. This is home to the tallest buildings in the city. La Defense has around twenty thousand residents and provides employment for another one-hundred and fifty thousand employees.
La Defense is a district at the heart of the European economy. It is home to over fifteen hundred businesses, primarily working in the tertiary or administrative sector. The headquarters of prominent international companies such as IBM, Axa, EDF, Areva and GDF Suez can be found in La Defense.

Key attractions are the Grande Arche de la Defense from which the district takes its name, as well as the numerous different skyscrapers that make up the imposing skyline of the area. In terms of wining and dining, the district has many street food establishments, bakeries, Turkish restaurants, fast food outlets, restaurants and bars. High-end examples include Côté Parvis at the Hilton hotel and Apogé, a bar with more than a hundred different wines.
Designed for convenience to commuters, La Défense is reachable by Paris Metro Line 1 and the RER line A serves two stations within its territory. Other public transport options include: Transilien L, Transilien U and the T2 tramway.
