Gare de Lyon is a railway station located in the east of Paris. The station is located in the 12th arrondissement of the city, which is on north bank of the River Seine. This area is home to the French Ministry of Finance, Bercy arena, Opéra de la Bastille, and the Bois de Vincennes Park. The station was named after the city of Lyon. Gare de Lyon is one of the six mainline stations in Paris and the third busiest in the country. It handles more than ninety million passengers a year, primarily through train routes to the south and east of France, including the areas of Marseille and Lyon. This station also accommodates regional trains and the RER.
Gare de Lyon serves the nearby offices of some notable companies, such as the Derichebourg Group who work in recycling and maintenance services and Foster Wheeler the prominent engineering company. The station has been a site for several film productions, such as Mr. Bean’s holiday and The Tourist. There are serviced offices to let in the area of Gare de Lyon.
Entertainment And Dining Out
Besides being an attraction for the film industry, Gare de Lyon is located near many notable landmarks, museums, and sights. These include the Jardin Yitzhak Rabin, Bercy Village, the Promenade Plantée and Parc de Bercy, as well as the indoor sports arena Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. In addition, the area is home of the Palais de la Porte Dorée that houses an Aquarium and the Immigration Museum, the Opéra Bastille, and the cemetery holding Lafayette’s Tomb. The area doesn’t lack in terms of places for delicious food choices. On the first floor of Gare de Lyon is Le Train Bleu, a luxurious restaurant serving traditional French cuisine. Places to have a drink in the area include the Café L’Arrosoir and the alternative bar Les Furieux. The area is also known for its busy nightlife, with clubs like Barrio Latino on the Rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine.
The Charles De Gaulle International Airport is connected directly with Gare de Lyon by line 4 of the Les Cars Air France service. Trains at the station arrive from destinations throughout the country and reaching the station from within the city centre is convenient, as RER-A and Metro lines 1 and 14 pass through Gare de Lyon. In addition, there are Metro lines 6 and 8 that service the 12th arrondissement of Paris.
