British attitudes towards work & life

The Guardian published reports today which show ‘employees’ attitudes towards working and living in Britain.’ 5,000 people from all over the UK were asked a total of 10 questions, such as ‘How satisfied are you with your work-life balance?’ and ‘Do you find it harder to meet bills and outgoings today than 12 months ago?’

In response to question 1, ‘How satisfied are you with your work-life balance?’ 51% answered, ‘Fairly satisfied’; with the majority from Scotland. However, respondents who answered ‘Very satisfied’ tended to be from the north east and east of England. As much as 14% of those surveyed answered ‘Fairly dissatisfied’ were mainly from the south west of England, the Midlands and Wales. Only 2% stated they were ‘Very dissatisfied’.

Interestingly, a massive 44% of those surveyed have no life plans for the next 5 years and as little as 3% plan to go back into full time education. Almost one quarter of respondents said that they planned to get married and nearly one fifth would like to change their career.

Almost half of respondents said that they find it harder to meet bills and outgoings now than they did 12 months ago, with just over 20% claiming they neither agree nor disagree. Only those from Wales strongly disagreed with the question.
