Area Information

Turner is a suburb of Canberra, in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is located 2 km (1 mile) from the centre of the capital city. The population of the suburb is just over three thousand inhabitants. Its name comes from the politician Sir George Turner and its streets are named after legislators, writers, and pioneers. Neighbouring suburbs include Acton, O’Connor, and Dickson. Turner is close to the Australian National University.

Nearby Lake Burley Griffin offers many outdoor activities that include the ability to walk, cycle or skate around the lake, which is approximately 25 km (16 miles) in circumference. There are a variety of restaurants in Turner including Delissio Brasserie, Italian & Sons, Sage Restaurant, Debacle, and Ostratos Greek Taverna.

Transport Information

Getting to Turner by air-transfer is quite easy, as it is located only 10 km (6 miles) from Canberra International Airport. The suburb is serviced by an extensive network of ACTION buses. Northbourne Avenue is the main highway in the area and runs to the east of Turner.
