Woolloongabba is an inner suburb of Brisbane, located 4 km (2 miles) south of its central business district. The name of the district means either ’whirling waters’ or ’fight talk place’ – a debate rages between experts, that hasn’t reached a consensus. Locals often refer to it as simply ‘The Gabba’, which is also the name of the Brisbane Cricket Ground, located in the city. The suburb has around four thousand inhabitants and thirty per cent of them speak a language other than English.
