About Penn Station
Penn Station is a major train station in New York City. Serving 430,000 passengers a day, it is one of the busiest passenger transportation facilities in the United States. Many of the thousands of passengers are daily commuters, due to the countless executive suites and major corporation headquarters situated nearby. Madison Square Garden is adjacent to Penn Station, and it is in close proximity to other Manhattan landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and Macy's at Herald Square. There are various development plans concerning Penn Station, including the possibility of ending Madison Square Garden's permit to operate at Penn Plaza, which would allow for the development of a new, above-ground station house. A new concourse is currently being constructed beneath the front steps of the Farley Building, and is due to open in 2016. Things to do in Penn Station
There are many attractions around Penn Station, including the Hammerstein Ballroom and Madison Square Garden, both of which house live music concerts, the latter also hosting sporting events. Times Square is a short walk from the station and is a favorite with tourists and locals alike. It has countless skyscrapers with interactive billboards adorning each one, and there are countless retail outlets within the area. The Rockefeller Center is a popular destination, especially at Christmas, with its giant and brightly decorated tree. There are many restaurants and bars in the vicinity, including Penn 6, an upscale gastro-pub and sports bar, and Tír Na Nóg, a Celtic-inspired American eatery, serving up delicious seafood and the best shepherd’s pie in the area.
