New York City's storied Park Avenue carries daily commuters north and south through different parts of the borough of Manhattan. Although Park Avenue runs throughout Manhattan, it is also commonly known by two other names in different neighborhoods: Fourth Avenue, which is the original name, and Park Avenue South. The portion of Park Avenue running through Midtown Manhattan is the more familiar stretch of road for visitors. At Midtown, Park Avenue widens to include the beautiful and distinctive landscaping that is partially responsible for inspiring its current name. From this part of Park Avenue, commuters can travel to Grand Central Station by taking the Murray Hill Tunnel or using the elevated road lanes that go around the terminal.

 

Park Avenue is famous for being home to expensive residential developments as well as housing the corporate headquarters of some of the largest business organizations in the United States. For instance, some of the business organizations who keep their headquarters on Park Avenue include Citigroup, The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, Major League Baseball and the National Football League. Similarly, the current residential housing that exists on Park Avenue between Grand Central Station and 96th Street came largely from a building boom that occurred during the 1920's. This part of Park Avenue, denoted by the 10021 zip code, is one of the most expensive zip codes in the United States and the world attracting a variety of wealthy residents.
