Madison Avenue runs north-south through the heart of Manhattan, from the classic New York Life Building at 23rd St to the high-priced shops of the Upper East Side. But Madison Avenue is so well known as a business address that the advertising industry is sometimes referred to simply as "Madison Avenue."

 

Madison Avenue begins at 23rd St at Madison Square, now a beautiful city park but once the original home of Madison Square Garden, which has far outgrown its original location. Madison Avenue runs parallel on one side to Fifth Avenue, with famous landmarks like the Empire State Building, the New York Public Library, St Patrick's Cathedral, and Trump Tower, and the elegant apartment buildings that line Park Avenue on the other. A dozen five-star hotels, including the world-famous Waldorf Astoria, are close by. Long the center of New York's advertising and publishing businesses, midtown is also home to some of the city's premiere legal, banking, and corporate headquarters.

 

Madison Avenue is convenient to all forms of transporation. Grand Central Station at 42 St is the bustling hub for commuter trains from the suburbs, while the Lexington Avenue subway line is a short two blocks away. Several city buses run frequently along the length of Madison Avenue, as do express commuter buses to other parts of the city. LaGuardia Airport is about a half hour away. Madison Avenue is also home to some of the city's best restaurants, perfect for both business and social events. From the foodie favorite 11 Madison to the sushi bars and steakhouses of midtown, the options for business entertainment, or simply a quick working lunch, are endless.
