Fresh Meadows is a residential neighborhood, located in the northeastern section of the New York City borough of Queens. Fresh Meadows is situated on the northeast side of Hillcrest. It is bordered to the east by Cunningham Park, to the south by Union Turnpike and St. John’s University, and to the west by South Flushing. This neighborhood is considered one of Queens’ most affluent areas. The neighborhood has historically and traditionally been home to one of New York City’s most thriving Jewish communities.
Fresh Meadows is surrounded by some of the best hospitals, physicians, and surgeons in New York. Many of the buildings surrounding the hospitals are filled with supporting medical office space. There are commercial businesses throughout the neighborhood, and the main campus of St. John’s University lies on the Hillcrest border at Union Turnpike.
Entertainment And Dining Out
This upscale community offers an eclectic array of restaurants ranging from the everyday fast food joint, to the mom and pop diner, to specialty ethnic foods. Original New York pizza from one of the areas excellent pizza restaurants is always a hit, whether you prefer thick or thin crust. Be sure to visit Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the second largest public park in the city of New York, it was the site of the 1939 World’s Fair. There are interactive exhibits and live demonstrations at the New York Hall of Science. Or try the Queens Zoo with over 250 exotic and domestic animals to fall in love with. For something a bit different, Big Apple Circus in Fresh Meadows offers the World’s Greatest Circus artists, presented under an intimate Big Top with the seats all within 50 feet of the action.
The neighborhood is served by NYC Transit bus lines Q17, Q26, Q30, Q31, Q46, Q65, Q88, and QM1. There are no New York City Subway or Long Island Railroad stations located within the boundaries of Fresh Meadows. However, it does contain the interchange between the Long Island Expressway and the Clearview Expressway.
