The Flatiron District is a neighborhood within the New York City borough of Manhattan, named after the Flatiron building, which is one of the oldest ‘skyscrapers’ in New York City. Today the building is dwarfed by the skyscrapers around it, but it is still a functional and well-known part of the city's middle skyline. Flatiron is a newly re-visioned neighborhood within one of the oldest parts of the city itself. The Flatiron District is home to the Ladies' Mile Historic District and the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt, a National Historic Site. Madison Square Park, having just undergone extensive rebuilding, is a major attraction within the Flatiron district for many residents and professionals alike. Other amenities include banks, convenience stores, libraries, restaurants and bars.
