About Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle, named after Christopher Columbus, is an intersection in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is the point from which all official distances from New York City are measured. The monument at the center of Columbus Circle commemorates the 400th anniversary of Columbus landing in the Americas, and consists of a marble statue of Columbus atop a column. Its pedestal features an angel holding a globe. In 2007 Columbus Circle was awarded the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence silver medal. Central Park is a favorite with tourists and locals alike, and provides a tranquil lunchtime retreat from the hustle and bustle of New York City.
