Santa Clara is a city in the U.S. state of California. It is situated in Santa Clara County, bordered by San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino. Santa Clara is the ninth most populated city in the Bay Area. The area was founded in 1777 as the eighth site of 21 California Missions. The city was incorporated in 1852. The historic Mission and Mission Gardens are located at Santa Clara University, which is the oldest university in the state. Santa Clara is also home to Mission College.
