Alviso is a small and peaceful community in San Jose, the Capital of Silicon Valley. San Jose lies in Santa Clara County, California, and Alviso itself is situated to the north of the greater San Jose community bordering the southern end of the San Francisco Bay. Alviso was not always part of San Jose and was itself incorporated in March 1852. During 1968 the citizens of Alviso voted for the city to be consolidated with San Jose and consolidation took place in March that year. Alviso was originally named after Ignacio Alviso, a Spanish settler, who began developing the area in the 1700s.
