Times Square, centred in the heart of bustling Manhattan, is an iconic American landmark that is highly acclaimed for being at once a tourist attraction, local favorite, and a business center hub.
Although Times Square is properly defined as the intersection of the major New York City streets Broadway and Seventh Avenue, the term almost always refers to the larger area spanning West 47th Street and West 42nd Street from the north and south, and Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue from the east and west. Because it is such an important hub of business and culture, Times Square is accessible from most of the major buses and subway lines in Manhattan, including a shuttle that runs from Grand Central Station to Times Square 42nd Street station.
Time Square gets its name from one of the largest executive suites in the area - The New York Times building, a skyscraper that reaches an astonishing 365 feet. Although the New York Times tower is formally used as office space, its height and prime location (on the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway) render it a perfect locale for the dropping of the New Years Eve ball, a century long tradition that has brought millions of people from across the world to Times Square since its inception in 1904. Other notable landmarks in the area include Bryant Park, home to renowned foliage, a carousel, and an historic fountain; MTV Studios, where the long-running show "Total Request Live" was filmed; the largest Toys 'R Us store in the world; and a plethora of Broadway and off-Broadway shows.
Because it is such an appealing cultural and business center, most of the office space in Times Square is only available for leasing. It should also be noted that New York City is among the most expensive cities in the world and is unarguably the most expensive city in the United States. At the center of this pricey universe, Times Square is no exception to the opulence. But although the price tags are weighty, they correspond to the implications of an address in this area. Furthermore, Time Square is such an active area that tenants are often offered resources like 24-hour security and major subway lines. The available office spaces range in price from about $900 per month to $1500 per month. Included in the rent for workspace in Times Square is a clear message to your customers that you?re an established leader.
In fact, work on new executive office space is also underway in this area. Namely, a skyscraper project that has garnered a lot of media attention, Eleven Times Square is currently under construction at the intersection of 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue and will be open for leasing in early 2010.
