Kips Bay is located in the borough of Manhattan and is composed of the area south of 38th Street to the East River, between Second Avenue and East 34th Street. In the 1970s the district built a pier in its section of the East River by submerging over 2,000 concrete piles and erecting a platform on top of them. This pier served as a foundation for the Waterside Plaza and United Nations International School. The construction received numerous awards and was heralded as a modern achievement in urban design. Kips Bay’s border with First Avenue is populated by the buildings of New York University including the NYU College of Dentistry, NYU School of Medicine and Manhattan VA Hospital.

Kips Bay provides subway access by means of the 28th Street, 33rd Street and 23rd Street stations. The district is also within walking distance of Grand Central Station.
