Burbank is named after a dentist named David Burbank. Dr. Burbank bought some land and turned it into a cattle ranch. The coming of the railroad transformed Burbank from a sleepy ranch town to a booming town. Major companies settled in Burbank, including many aerospace companies. Today, much of the aerospace industry has relocated, and Burbank is home to media giants such as Warner Brothers, PBS, and The Walt Disney Company. Many major movies, such as Casablanca and Shane, have been shot on the movie lots in Burbank. Studio tours are available daily. Nightclubs, such as the Eye Candy Club, and a multitude of excellent restaurants add to the city's exciting nightlife. Burbank Town Center, one of the largest malls in Southern California, is a shopping Mecca. For a more intimate shopping experience, Magnolia Park has rows of beautiful antiques shops, small boutiques and friendly corner markets. Each year, Burbank becomes a hub of floral activity as Burbank volunteers prepare for the Rose Bowl Parade. Millions of delicate blooms decorate over sixty floats while people prepare to watch one of the most viewed football games of the season.
Burbank's economy is largely based on the entertainment industry and ancillary companies that serve the industry. With its picturesque parks and friendly neighborhoods, Burbank keeps attracting a varied assortment of people who enjoy small-city living within easy driving distance of one of the country's largest metropolis.
