Area Information
Second Avenue is situated on the east side of the New York City borough of Manhattan. It extends from Houston Street at the south end to Harlem River Drive at the north end. It’s a one-way street, with traffic running south, or downtown, and a bike lane in the left-hand side of the road from 55th to Houston Street. Second Avenue runs through a number of Manhattan neighborhoods, each one with its own local flavor. These include: Lower East Side, East Village, Gramercy Park, Murray Hill, Upper East Side, Yorkville, and Spanish Harlem.

All along 2nd Avenue you will find a variety of small businesses. There are locksmiths, nail and hair salons, bodegas (a mix of convenience store and deli), as well as many service businesses that serve the local residential areas. A branch location of the New York Public Library is located between 2nd and 3rd on East 125th. Second Avenue also houses several executive suites and offices to let.
Entertainment And Dining Out
Along 2nd Avenue in the lower East Side there prevails a strong Jewish immigrant influence. You will find many kosher delicatessens and bakeries in the neighborhood. The famous Second Avenue Deli moved from 2nd Avenue to 3rd, but it is within walking distance along East 33rd Street. Second Avenue also has several barbecue restaurants, including Brio 89 and Brother Jimmy’s BBQ. You will also find bars, shops, and art galleries in areas all along the street.
Transport Information
At the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Houston Street in the East Village area of Manhattan, you will find Second Avenue Station. This is a subway station on the IND Sixth Avenue Line of the New York City Subway System. It is served by the F train at all times. Second Avenue is located within 10 miles west of LaGuardia International Airport. This airport offers regional connections as well as flights to Canada and the Caribbean isles. The area is also within 16 miles northwest of John F. Kennedy International Airport, offering flights to Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Caribbean.
