Often East 34th Street is simply referred to as 34th Street. This is a major cross-town street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, connecting the Lincoln Tunnel and the Queens to Midtown Tunnel. At the west end of 34th street is the Hudson River, the West Midtown Ferry Terminal, the Hudson River Greenway, the West Side Highway, and the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, which is New York City’s main convention center. At the east end of this street you will find the FDR Drive, the East River Greenway for cycling to the south end of Manhattan, a small parking lot for New York University, the East 34th Street Ferry Landing, and the East 34th Street Heliport.

East 34th Street is one of the major shopping streets in New York. On 34th and Broadway there is an oversized video board and light display, which is set up like a mini Times Square. Along this part of 34th Street you will find Macy’s, and a block south of 34th, at Sixth Avenue and 33rd Street, shoppers can enjoy the Manhattan Mall: an indoor shopping mall that was built inside what used to be the flagship location of the Gimbel’s department store. Along this street you will also find several branches of large chain stores, like Old Navy and Kmart. Mixed in with the shopping along East 34th Street, are many buildings that offer offices to let. East 34th Street passes in front of the Empire State Building.

East 34th has its own bus routes and four subway stops providing the A, C, and E trains at Eighth Avenue, the 1, 2, and 3 trains at Seventh Avenue, the B, D, F, M, N, Q, and R and Jersey PATH trains at Herald Square. The 4, 6, and <6> trains can also be taken from Park Avenue. LaGuardia International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport provide Manhattan and East 34th Street with easy access to abundant flight routes.
