About Waterloo Tube Station

For many years, Waterloo was marshland and not an important London location. The marsh was drained in the 18th century, and since then, the area has been aggressively urbanised to create the popular business and tourist site Waterloo is today. Waterloo is home to the South Bank, an area of cultural significance well known for its famous landmark, the London Eye, which was erected to mark the turn of the Millennium and remains an iconic part of the London skyline. Waterloo station is one of the larger and more important stations in central London, offering great transport links all over the city and to other parts of the country. Waterloo Station used to be home to the Eurostar until 2007, when it was moved to London Euston.

Setting up your business here

There are a wide range of industries based around Waterloo, although many do tie in heavily with the tourist trade. Banks and financial institutions are in the majority, as are news services companies. Tourist-friendly businesses include a number of souvenir shops, jewellery houses and cycle shops. International corporations IMAX and Shell are both based in the area as well, so businesses based here enjoy excellent opportunities for networking.

Things to do in Waterloo Tube Station

Situated right across the river from the Houses of Parliament, the Waterloo area has a wide variety of things to do to suit any interests. The world-famous Southbank Centre is an important cultural hub, home to the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Festival Hall. The Florence Nightingale Museum is also situated on the South Bank, and the London Dungeon recently relocated here from its previous home at London Bridge. When it comes to nightlife, there are a fantastic range of bars and restaurants. A quiet post-work drink at The Wellesley, Waterloo Station, is great for weekdays, whilst Carriage 34 is set up to look like a 1920s train carriage and would make for a great venue for special nights out. For dinner plans, delicious dim sum can be found at Ping Pong, whilst rough-around-the-edges pub grub is available at the Anchor & Hope.
