About Marylebone Tube Station

Although a common misconception is that Marylebone is a rough translation of Marie la Bonne which is French for ‘Mary the good’, the name Marylebone is simply derived from a church built in the area, dedicated to St Mary. The church stood on the banks of a small river (or ‘bourne’), hence the area becoming known by this name over time. Marylebone has been home to many famous names over the years, with some of the greatest names in literature, music and science residing here. Famous residents have included everyone from Chopin and Charles Dickens to John Lennon.
