Area Guide Kings Cross St Pancras Tube Station

Once a red light district, this inner city area has been regenerated over the last two decades through major developments such as the opening of Eurostar and St. Pancras International.

Business professionals and travellers alike flock to Kingís Cross, thanks to its many transport links and its dynamic culture. The Guardian and The Observer have their offices here, along with big names like Google, Universal Music and Louis Vuitton. Although new developments have seen the area throw off its less-than-glamorous past, itís not all shiny glass and suits. The cobbled streets around Coal Drops Yard, plus many Victorian buildings, lend some historic charm to a post-meeting stroll.

Setting up your business here

Its superior travel links set Kingís Cross apart, with St Pancras International being a particular draw for those who travel to and from the continent. As for lunchtime or post-work venues, thereís plenty of variety to suit different tastes Ė itís hard to see how you wouldnít find an appealing bar or restaurant. The only drawback to having an office in Kingís Cross is the crowds- theyíre unavoidable in rush hour.

Culture and Entertainment

The world-famous British Library holds regular exhibitions inside its Grade I listed building - arguably worth a visit if only for the cafť surrounded by rare books. Or, if itís one particular author youíre interested in, take a look at the Charles Dickens Museum on Doughty Street. The elegant Georgian townhouse includes first editions of his masterpieces, as well as letters, pictures and other memorabilia.

Those with a penchant for architecture may well enjoy a trip to St. Pancras New Church, the second most expensive in London after St. Paulís Cathedral. Turn out of Eustonís main exit and look for the Greek revival-style structure. Or maybe itís medicine that interests you? The Wellcome Collection is a free and highly regarded museum on Euston Road.

Eating out

With so many new office developments joining its skyline, Kingís Cross has gained plenty of swanky restaurants for business lunches. Rather than heading in any direction however, youíd be wise to plan in advance to avoid disappointment.

The German Gymnasium Grand Cafť is located behind Kingís Cross station, and is an upmarket choice. Think white table cloths, marble floors and a menu of German-inspired cuisine. Caravan has a more laidback vibe, where a mix of students and young professionals sample an eclectic menu that caters to plenty of tastes. Or how about some afternoon tea? Fortnum and Mason Tea Salon is sure to impress clients with its scones served on the finest china, found just a short walk from many Kingís Cross office spaces.
