Pimlico sits directly to the south of Victoria train station and is sandwiched between some of the most famous parts of London, like Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the River Thames as it flows south and then west. The area is characterised primarily by its large garden squares and many buildings listed as having cultural or historic significance. Pimlico’s development as a small but renowned residential and commercial district was undertaken as an extension to the areas of Belgravia, which sits among some of the most exclusive parts of London, lying immediately to the west. Famous former residents of the area include British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, novelist Joseph Conrad and the actor Laurence Olivier.

Things to do in Pimlico
One great thing to do in Pimlico is to simply walk along the banks of the River Thames as it snakes through the city, alongside Grosvenor Road at the southern edge of the district. A cultural highlight in the area is the Tate Britain, one of the most popular and renowned museums in London, which houses exhibitions of historic and contemporary art throughout the year. Plus there are numerous other great museums a short distance from Pimlico in South Kensington, where you’ll find the Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Albert Hall. Pimlico isn’t as famous for its restaurants and bars as neighbouring Belgravia or Sloane Square but there are plenty of friendly and sophisticated eateries and pubs to choose from. The Pimlico Pub and the Grosvenor for example have a lot of charm and good service to offer and they each take visitors slightly off the beaten track and into relative tranquillity by the bustling standards of West and Central London.
