Located in the county of East Sussex, Lewes is known mainly as a market town with a number of historical and natural sites. The township is next to Lewes Downs, Lewes Brooks and Southerham Works Pit, all three of which are “Sites of Special Scientific Interest”. Lewes Castle provides an insight into the history of the town, as do the ruins at Lewes Priory, Wealden Hall House and The Round House. Other landmarks in and around Lewes include the cobbled road on Keere Street and Pelham House.

Lewes has a varied entertainment scene with a number of venues for live-music, cinema and more. There is Glyndebourne Opera House which has live classical music performances, while Lewes Film Club offers a number of movie-screenings including some of its own productions. Con Club holds monthly comedy events and the Volunteer Pub and Lewes Arm are popular live music venues. Lewes is superb for dining out, with restaurants offering a variety of cuisine from different parts of the world. There is European cuisine at Limetree Kitchen while Famiglia Lazzati is the perfect place for the entire family to enjoy Italian food. Shanaz serves up a wide variety of Indian food and The Rainbow Inn is known for its contemporary British dishes served up in a traditional pub environment.
Lewes has always been a major cog in the transportation network with a well-linked network of roadways. Lewes railway station is a major junction on the mainline railway network, while a number of bus routes and taxi services provide connectivity within the town itself.
