The town of Leatherhead is situated in the Mole Valley District in Surrey. Its location on the River Mole provides the town with natural scenic beauty. Thought to be of Saxon origin, the town has enjoyed the position of being a major transport hub throughout its existence. An important industrial town during the latter part of the 20th century, currently the local economy is largely commerce-based.
