A former Royal Burgh situated in Fife, Scotland, Dunfermline is an historic town and the second largest settlement in Fife. There were settlers in the area during the Neolithic period but the area was not classed as one of significance until the Bronze Age. Over the centuries, the town has accrued a rich and fascinating history and today boasts various places of interest and sites that reflect its past. Some of the areas of interest that can be found within the town include Dunfermline Abbey, the Dunfermline War Memorial, Abbot House, the Guildhall, and the City Chambers. There are also many festivities held here each year, reflecting the culture of the area. This includes The Bruce Festival, in celebration of Robert the Bruce and his connection with the town.
While the retail and service industries are an important part of Dunfermline’s economy, there are a number of businesses and professionals that are based in the retail units and the office space within the town. There are good road links in Dunfermline, which means convenience for drivers as well as those using other forms of transport such as taxis and buses. Amongst the roads that connect the town are the A907, the A92 and the M90 motorway. Access to rail links is provided through Dunfermline Town and Dunfermline Queen Margaret Railway Stations, which are both on the Fife Circle Line. For air travel links, Edinburgh Airport is within easy reach of the town.
