Bolton is a prosperous town located to the north west of the city of Manchester. The town of Bolton is surrounded by a number of smaller towns and villages which combine to form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton and its closeness to Manchester has boosted its economic growth tremendously. Known as being a former mill town, Bolton is possibly best known for producing textiles, which it has been doing since the 15th century. Today, Bolton is a bustling centre that has transformed from an industrial town into one that relies more on its services-based economy. Now home to The Reebok (football) Stadium, museums, theatres, Bolton University, one of the earliest public libraries, and a renowned shopping area, Bolton is popular with businesses and visitors alike.
