Area Guide London Bridge

A stone’s throw from the City, London Bridge lies in the borough of Southwark and is known for its networking and transport links and historical legacy.

Once upon a time, the heads of traitors were displayed at the top of London Bridge for all to see and traversing the Thames through street sellers and livestock took up to an hour. A far cry from Medieval London, the place is now known for its fantastic transport links, its affiliation with the City and Borough Market. A well-connected place to rent serviced office space, London Bridge houses everyone from creative start-ups to financial service companies. Already established as one of the livelier parts of London, there are plans in motion to improve the streetscape and make it a healthier, more sustainable place to work and visit.

Setting up your business here

An area rich in cultural history, this is an ideal place to meet with Londoners and out-of-towners alike, due to its striking traditional architecture and easy commutability. Future plans have ensured that some of its greyness will be replaced by greenery, the station will be transformed and shops will make the place a more fashionable area to commute to or live. With the Shard encouraging the gentrification of Bermondsey and slowly creating a third business district in London, this is an ideal place to lease an office.

Culture and Entertainment

London Bridge is Falling Down remains a popular nursery rhyme today. It’s not surprising that this part of London still feels very historic; with the busy hustle of Borough Market, London’s oldest food market. The Old Operating Theatre Museum situated in the herb garret in the roof of St Thomas’ Church, showcases Britain’s oldest surviving purpose-built theatre where operations were once performed without anaesthetic.

The Shard is one of the most iconic buildings in London, with panoramic views across the City. The Scoop is home to theatre performances, film screenings and cultural events all year round and HMS Belfast, the last remaining warship of its kind, is proudly docked on the banks.

Eating out

Three meals a day can be found in the London Bridge area with ease. For food with a view, the Blueprint Café in the Design Museum serves anything from gourmet sandwich rolls to cakes at teatime. The George Inn, Shakespeare’s old stomping ground, is a cosy, traditional pub serving British food and ales.

At the London Grind, a full English breakfast is cooked up throughout the day, with options of smashed avocado and banana bread.

The famous Borough Market is home to a wide selection of hot and cold dishes, British meats, artisanal baked and dairy goods and fresh vegetables. A popular spot for lunch, this is a bustling, traditional London market on the banks of the river.
