The largest city in the county of Hampshire, Southampton is also one of the most important cities on the South Coast of England. It is a port city located at the confluence of Rivers Test, Itchen and Hamble. The city has a long nautical history, being associated with some of the largest and most famous ships in the world. The Mayflower departed with the Pilgrim Fathers from this city in the 17th century. The maiden voyage of the Titanic also originated from here.
