Cavendish Square is an upmarket area in The City of Westminster in London's West End and is very close to Oxford Circle, where the famous Oxford Street and Regent Street shopping thoroughfares intersect. Cavendish Square is an extremely high-end business and residential area that attracts upmarket tenants and clientele. Cavendish Square is named after Henrietta Cavendish-Hollace, the wife of the Second Earl of Oxford, for whom the square was laid out in 1717 by John Prince as part of the development of the Earl's London estate. Many members of the London nobility, including the daughter of George II, Princess Amelia, the eccentric Fifth Duke of Portland and James Brydges, the First Duke of Chandos, built residences on the square and today one the square's main attractions is the bronze statue of Lord George Bentinck.
