About Canary Wharf
Located in Tower Hamlets, Canary Wharf is one of Londonís two main financial districts and a major commercial hub in the London Docklands. It is home to the second tallest building in the United Kingdom Ė One Canada Square, and contains many of the UKs other tallest buildings. Situated on the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf was one of the busiest ports in London from the early 1800s until the mid-1900s. By 1980, the docks had been closed down, and by the late 1900s Ė through significant redevelopment initiated by the British Government Ė Canary Wharf re-emerged as a prime location for the world or European headquarters of many major banks, media corporations and professional services firms.
