About Canary Wharf

Located in Tower Hamlets, Canary Wharf is one of Londonís two main financial districts and a major commercial hub in the London Docklands. It is home to the second tallest building in the United Kingdom Ė One Canada Square, and contains many of the UKs other tallest buildings. Situated on the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf was one of the busiest ports in London from the early 1800s until the mid-1900s. By 1980, the docks had been closed down, and by the late 1900s Ė through significant redevelopment initiated by the British Government Ė Canary Wharf re-emerged as a prime location for the world or European headquarters of many major banks, media corporations and professional services firms.

Setting up your business here

With more than 14 million square feet of retail and office space, just over half of which is owned by Canary Wharf Group, Canary Wharf and the rest of the Docklands are undoubtedly prime London business locations. Many leading international corporations have their world or European headquarters in the area, which presents ideal opportunities for networking, as well as being located in one of Londonís most renowned business hubs. Some of the major companies currently residing in Canary Wharf include, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan, MetLife, KPMG, Credit Suisse, Thomson Reuters and HSBC.
