Area Information

Moscow is the capital city of Russia. Moscow is situated on the Moskva River, in the Central Federal District of European Russia. This is also the most populated city in Russia and is the 5th largest city in the world. Moscow is a major economic, cultural, political, and scientific centre for the country.

Tretyakov Gallery is one of the notable art museums in the city. This gallery is split between two buildings, the Old Tretyakov gallery houses works in the classic Russian tradition, while the New Tretyakov gallery mainly contains the works of Soviet artists, and a few contemporary paintings. The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts houses famous paintings from every major Western era. Including works by Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, and Pablo Picasso. Restaurants in Moscow include Aristocrat – featuring Russian cuisine. This restaurant is situated in a portion of an 18th century mansion. Another choice is Correa’s, named after the New York chef who runs the restaurant, dining options include fresh fruits and vegetables, grilled meats, eggplant and mushroom pizza, and the house carrot cake.

Transport Information

Situated near Moscow, there are five primary commercial airports. These include Sheremetyevo International Airport, Domodedovo International Airport, Bykovo Airport, Ostafyevo International Airport, and Vnukovo International Airport. Sheremetyevo International Airport is the most popular destination for foreign travellers. This airport handles over 60% of the international flights coming into Moscow. Moscow’s extensive transit network extends beyond the four international airports and includes nine railway terminals, and one of the deepest underground metro systems in the world. Known as the Moscow Metro, this system is ranked third behind only Tokyo and Seoul in terms of passenger numbers. The 185 stations feature unique and varied architecture, and its art, murals, mosaics, and ornate chandeliers. This system is one of the city’s landmarks.
