Hyderabad is the capital city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad has an estimated metropolitan population of 10 million, making it an A-1 status city. Hyderabad is known for its rich history, culture and architecture representing its unique character as a meeting point for North and South India, and also its multilingual culture, both geographically and culturally. Also known as The City of Nizams and the City of Pearls, Hyderabad is today one of the most developed cities in the country and a modern hub of information technology, ITES, and biotechnology.
Hyderabad is rightly known as the high-tech city. IT in Hyderabad is renowned world over. The city is the hub of information technology in India. Hyderabad is also the financial and economic capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The city is the largest contributor to the state’s gross domestic product, state tax and excise revenues. The workforce participation is about 29.55%. Starting in the 1990s, the economic pattern of the city has changed from being a primarily service city to being one with a more diversified spectrum, including trade, transport, commerce, storage, communication etc. Service industry is the major contributor, with urban workforce constituting 90% of the total workforce.
The state government has promoted IT growth in the city and has launched significant incentives for companies setting up offices. These include the status of “essential services” provided to the IT sector and 100% reimbursement on stamp duty. Approximately 350,000 graduates from universities in the state, ensuring a steady supply of required HR. Last year saw absorption of3.8 million sq. ft, due to lack of available grade A supply. An estimated 2 million sq. ft of the total supply coming online is already committed for this year. Rentals in the CBD are expected to remain stable due to the lack of fresh demand.
Hyderabad is well linked by all major airlines to most major Indian cities and overseas. All flights, national and international, to and from Hyderabad, operate from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. This is a new airport located at Shamshabad, 22 km from the city centre. This new airport has replaced the former Begumpet Airport. The South Central Railway is one of the 16 railway zones in India. It is headquartered at Secunderabad. Hence we will find many trains from major cities of India to Hyderabad. The city also has the third largest bus station facility in Asia, with 72 platforms for 72 buses to load passengers at a time.
The monuments of Hyderabad are an absolute delight to visit. Hyderabad has its own share of famous monuments that are a must visit on every tourists’ itinerary. The city has a rich history and has outstanding examples of ancient architecture still withstanding the tests of time.
