Bayswater is largely a residential area, however, there are still a healthy amount of thriving businesses, including Hotels, Real Estate companies, bars, restaurants and retail stores, making the area more suited to companies within the hospitality, commercial property or retail sectors. However, with close links to the Financial District, companies in this sector could consider Bayswater as a location, as rental rates for office space will be less expensive.
There is a lot to choose from when it comes to eating out in Bayswater. Great Queens Street (WC2B 5AA) is a fine dining experience on par with St John (Farringdon) and The Anchor & Hope (Waterloo), as they are run by the very same masterminds of these adventurous restaurants. There is also the World Food Cafe (Neal’s Yard Dining Room, Seven Dials, WC2H 9DP), which is a vegetarian restaurant serving up top quality food from all over the globe.
If you’re looking for a post work drink, then head to Victoria (10a Strathearn Place, W2 2NH), a Victorian pub which oozes character and atmosphere. If its a cocktail you crave then look no further than Westbourne House (65 Westbourne Grove, W2 4UJ), an elegantly designed bar, with an imaginative cocktail list. If you want to continue the night, head a few doors down to Harlem (78 Westbourne Grove W2 5RT), a surprisingly un-pretentious celebrity hangout. Drinks prices are cheaper than you would expect for the area, and the atmosphere is very laid back.
Britain's first department store, Whiteleys (151 Queensway, W2 4YN), opened its doors to the people of Bayswater in 1912. In 1981 Whiteleys was forced to close due to competition from the West End, but was brought back to life by Gordon Selfridge (founder of Selfridges), in 1989, only to resume the crown of Central London’s largest shopping centre. Bayswater is also home to the Subway Gallery (1 Edgware Road, W2 1DX), a pedestrian subway below Edgware Road and Harrow Road. Specialising in contemporary artists, this underground gallery showcases some unique art, in a unique setting.
